SoCal: LA sights in one day

Posted on January 25, 2018

LA isn’t like other cities where people come to ‘sightsee’. Apart from Hollywood. Everyone wants to see Hollywood. So if you come to LA, here is your one-day sightseeing tour.

Start at Rodeo Drive and do the Pretty Woman thing, popping into the Beverly Wilshire.

For sustenance after shopping: if you’re in a hurry and need a sugar fix, pop to Sprinkles cupcake ATM. Or for a more leisurely break pop into Wally’s for a glass of wine and some cheese.

Then, if you really must, head to the ‘Hollywood Stars’. Be warned, it’s not a nice part of LA. if you’re staying with me you get dropped off with maximum 5 minutes to go and take pics of a few stars and then we’re off. Ha!

Now my favourite bit… go to Griffith Park and do the short hike from Trails Cafe (where you can get excellent suspense before or after) to Griffith Observatory. En route you will see the Hollywood sign, ideal for snaps and social media.

Or, for another view of the view of the Hollywood, try horseback from Sunset Ranch.

If you come in summer book something, anything, at the Hollywood Bowl which has to be the best and most civilized music venue in the world (just don’t park there). Failing that the Greek Theatre is another extraordinary venue.

If you’re a museum person, the Getty Centre is a must. Even if you’re not, go there for spectacular architecture and views. Picnics are recommended. Ditto for LACMA: go for the art. Or to see Urban Light, or to hang out in the Ray Stark Bar and watch the world go by. Just go.

Lastly, to get you prepared for your trip pre-watching can include LaLa Land and, for the real movie buffs: Los Angeles Plays Itself.

But honestly, there is SO much more to LA. Explore Downtown & The Arts District, hang out in Venice and Santa Monica on the Westside, go up the coast to Malibu. Just go explore. It’s an amazing city.
